Annaprashan, also known as the Rice Ceremony or Mukhe Bhaat, is a Hindu ritual where a baby is introduced to solid food for the first time. Procedure for Annaprashan Pooja: Preparation: Clean the area where the pooja will be performed. Arrange all the required items neatly on a clean cloth or plate. Invoking the Deities: Light the incense sticks and ghee lamp. Offer prayers to Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and other deities invoking their blessings for the ceremony. Blessing the Food: Place the cooked rice, kheer, and other sweets in front of the deities and seek their blessings. Sprinkle a few drops of water on the food items as a symbol of purification. Feeding the Baby: The father or a priest can sit holding the baby on his lap, facing east or north. Place a bit of the cooked rice mixed with ghee or sweet pudding on a silver or steel spoon. Feed the first bite to the baby while chanting mantras or invoking the blessings of the deities. Blessings and Celebration: After the first feeding, family members and guests take turns feeding the baby a small amount of rice pudding or mashed banana. Bless the baby for health, prosperity, and happiness. Distribute the blessed food among the attendees as prasad. Final Prayers and Aarti: Conclude the ceremony with prayers, aarti (waving of lit lamp), and seeking blessings for the baby’s future. Feasting: After the pooja, a feast is usually arranged for family and friends to celebrate the occasion. Remember, while these are general guidelines, customs and rituals might vary based on regional and family traditions. It’s always a good idea to consult with elders or a priest for specific details or variations in the ceremony.
